10 Surprising Things You Didnt Know About Leonardo Da Vinci

10 Surprising  Things You Didn't Know About Leonardo da Vinci
1. Mona Lisa theory #1: Her smile means she was secretly pregnant.
2. Theory #2: She was amused by the musicians and clowns who entertained her while Leonardo painted her. (Another theory says the Mona Lisa is a portrait of Leonardo himself, slyly disguised. But you'd heard that one before, hadn't you?)
3. Leonardo was the first to explain why the sky is blue. (It's because of the way air scatters light.)

4.  And he figured out why the entire moon is dimly visible when it is a thin crescent. Its nightside is lit by light reflected from Earth, which appears 50 times brighter from the moon than the full moon appears here.
5. Leonardo’s father married a sixteen-year-old girl named Albiera who died young.
6. Da Vinci’s first independent commission was to paint an altarpiece for the Chapel of St. Bernard in the Palazzo Vecchio in January 1478. This commission was not completed.
7. Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous painted works are the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and the Virgin of the Rocks.
8. Leonardo was given permission to dissect human corpses at the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence and at hospitals in Milan and Rome. From these studies he created over 200 pages of drawings.
9. Scissors
Something as simple yet as important as the scissors had a huge importance in the development of mankind. Who knows how many centuries would have passed without this tool had it not been for the man? Just think about all the tailors…
10. Among others, he was a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. Many claim he was the smartest man to ever live.
